Special Thanks to MCC

Wounded Warrior Fund/100 Holes of golf for Charity

Dear Merchantville Members,

Friday September 10, 2021, Merchantville Country Club hosted our annual 100 hole golf marathon to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Byron Driscoll and John Tierney teed off at 6:15 and we will finish 100 holes – 9 hours of golf. This year, we recieved much needed help/caddie support from MCC Members Jerry Poslusny, Tommy Tobolski, Ken Jones, Mike Kendrick, John Downham, Tom Lewis, Tim Bishop, Jeff Heppard, Tim Bell and Jack Tierney. Special thanks to each of them for their support.

For me, the golf marathon is one of the best days of the year. It is a celebration that showcases the generosity of our wonderful membership. It honors those that helped protect us. It will ultimately help those that need it. The marathon this year falls the day before the 20thanniversary of 9-11 which is not a coincidence. Many may not know this, but the golf marathon at MCC is linked to 9-11. It is linked through our friend Jason Ragel.

Many members have been able to get to know Jason through our annual Heroes Classic Golf tournament. I first met Jason in 2013 through a charity golf event. He was quick to share his story. Like thousands of other patriots, he enlisted immediately after 9-11. He was willing to put his life on the line to protect our way of life. He served multiple tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. He paid a heavy price and continues to deal with significant challenges resulting from his service. He has no regrets. He’s quick to point out he’d do it again in a heartbeat. Since leaving active duty, he has a passion for helping others work through their challenges by focusing his efforts on initiatives like the Wounded Warrior Project and Birdies for the Brave. This is why Jason always looks forward to bringing his crew to MCC.

I’m ecstatic to report that 2021 will be a record year of fundraising for the marathon. As we tee off, we have pledges for over $16,000!!! When the marathon started 5 years ago, we hoped to raise $3,000. Over 75 members have pledged/donated! I believe we will get to $20,000 when we are done with fundraising this year. It is not too late to submit a pledge. Call the office or pro shop if you want more information.

From the bottom of my heart, thanks for supporting this great event!

John Tierney
