How We Give Each Competitor A Chance To Win

Handicap & Affiliation

Competition is widespread at Merchantville Country Club. As a standard practice to better the quality of said competition, MCC holds memberships in both regional and national golf associations. These groups, the Golf Association of Philadelphia (GAP), the South Jersey Golf Association, and the United States Golf Association (USGA) allow MCC to access handicapping systems, golf leagues and multiple networks of information pertaining to the game.

As a member of the USGA, MCC follows USGA rules and participates in the USGA Handicap System. This universal system assigns each player a handicap number based upon average scores entered into our handicap computer, located in the golf shop. The aim is to afford each competitor an equal chance of winning, regardless of skill level. Effectiveness of this system is dependent upon Member compliance in posting all scores. To post your score or establish a handicap, visit the golf shop, where our staff members can assist you.

GAP Team Matches

One time-tested benefit of being a GAP member is the ability to play in GAP Team Matches. Every year, GAP member clubs form teams and compete against each other over three Sundays in April. This is a fan-favorite, as golfers can experience other courses and meet fellow players while enjoying competition. The 2014 GAP matches mark MCC’s 115th anniversary of their first recorded GAP Match win.

Our Handicap and Golf Committees are responsible for confirming compliance with all GAP handicap guidelines as well as educating golfing members on the values of the game. For more information, contact our Handicap Committee or Golf Committee Chairperson.
